Nigeria captain John Mikel Obi has said that the Super Eagles is up for the 2019 Africa Cup Of Nations which will hold in Egypt, later this month, ASB News reports. Mikel returned to the team ahead of the AFCON after being absent from international scene since after the World Cup in Russia. The former Chelsea star who had a short spell with English Championship side, Middlesbrough, said he is now ready to lead the Nigeria team again. Speaking after a training session in Asaba, where the team is currently camped in Nigeria, said that he is happy with the progress the team has made so far, he also said that he fitted in seamlessly after many months of absence. “I’m really happy to be back in the team and I’m happy with the progress made so far. I fitted in seamlessly because it was not a problem for me as I have great understanding of the team and the coach very well. “I needed rest because I was struggling with injuries but now I’m ready to lead the team again. The best team will win the AFCON and we are up for it as we are training twice a day.” Meanwhile, 18-man squad of the Zimbabwe’s national team have arrived in Nigeria for Saturday’s international friendly game against the Super Eagles in Asaba. The match would kick-off 5pm, Nigeria time.
